You can locate the ring anywhere along the shoulder strap - in front or back - by moving both pins in the desired direction. Keeping the same distance between the pins will maintain the same length of the shoulder strap. The fabric fold can be positioned for added padding.
Typically, once the shoulder strap is adjusted properly, there is little need to readjust it. HELPFUL TIP: If two or more people share the HipHugger, each can put a unique little mark on the pin sleeves to facilitate changing between wearers.
IMPORTANT: Always return the sizing ring and pins to the HipHugger as described above. DO NOT leave the ring or pins out where a child can grab them as this could pose a choking risk.

WEARING THE HIP HUGGER Instructions are for right-handed parents. If you are left-handed, simply reverse the orientation. 1) Support child on your left hip. Hold the shoulder strap of the sling in your right hand. 2) Pull the sling over your and the child's head. While still holding the child with your left arm, carefully slide the bucket down the child's back and under his bottom. 3) Continue to hold the child firmly. Adjust the sling so the child is sitting deeply into the bucket. The knot on the adjustment cord should locate between the child's shoulders facing outward. Check that the sling isn't twisted. 4) Loosen or tighten the backrest adjusting cord to find the best position and tie with a double knot. Secure the child before making changes to the cord. IMPORTANT: Always keep your left arm across the child's back for safety. To remove the sling, reverse the above procedure: 1) Support the child's weight with your left arm. Hook your right thumb under the shoulder strap just above your collarbone. 2) While lifting the child up with your left arm, pull the shoulder strap over your head with your right hand. Allow the sling to slide down the outside of your arm and let it drop. Shift the child's weight to the right arm. The sling can now be gathered up in your left hand. OR 1) Sit down, so that you create a lap. 2) Once you and the child are stable, use both hands to remove the child from The HipHugger, taking care that the child's legs and feet are fully free of the sling. 3) Put the child down someplace safe, and only then remove The HipHugger. IMPORTANT: If you don't feel completely confident putting your child in and out of the sling, or if the child begins to squirm out of control, first stabilize the child then request help from a friend.
