FITTING THE HIP HUGGER
Adjust the fit of the HipHugger before putting your child in for the first time. For most parents, the seat bucket should rest just above the hipbone. Always remove the child before making any adjustments. NEVER adjust the HipHugger with the child in the sling.

The HipHugger can easily be fitted higher or lower
in the following manner:

1) Remove the HipHugger and turn it
inside out so the quilted adjusting
sleeves are accessible [Fig. 1].

2) Slide the steel ring down away
from the pins and remove one or both
pins by lifting the over-flap and sliding
the pin free [Fig. 2].
3) Changing the distance between the pins determines the length of the shoulder strap [Fig. 3]. To raise the seat higher on your hip, move the rings farther apart [Fig.3a]. To lower the seat, locate the rings closer together [Fig.3b].
4) Completely re-insert the pins. IMPORTANT: Be absolutely certain that both pins are secured under the overlaps that hold them in place [Fig. 4]. If the overlap is stiff, use a fingernail or small, flat tool to tuck the tip under the small end of the sleeve.
5) Slide the ring back into place making sure the ring is "trapped" beneath the two pins.
IMPORTANT: Before wearing the HipHugger, grab the shoulder strap on either side of the ring and tug vigorously several times [Fig. 5]. This insures that the ring and pins are working properly.

You can locate the ring anywhere along the shoulder strap - in front or back - by moving both pins in the desired direction. Keeping the same distance between the pins will maintain the same length of the shoulder strap. The fabric fold can be positioned for added padding.

Typically, once the shoulder strap is adjusted properly, there is little need to readjust it.

HELPFUL TIP: If two or more people share the HipHugger, each can put a unique little mark on the pin sleeves to facilitate changing between wearers.

IMPORTANT: Always return the sizing ring and pins to the HipHugger as described above. DO NOT leave the ring or pins out where a child can grab them as this could pose a choking risk.

WEARING THE HIP HUGGER
Instructions are for right-handed parents. If you are left-handed, simply reverse the orientation.

1) Support child on your left hip. Hold the shoulder strap of the sling in your right hand.

2) Pull the sling over your and the child's head. While still holding the child with your left arm, carefully slide the bucket down the child's back and under his bottom.

3) Continue to hold the child firmly. Adjust the sling so the child is sitting deeply into the bucket. The knot on the adjustment cord should locate between the child's shoulders facing outward. Check that the sling isn't twisted.

4) Loosen or tighten the backrest adjusting cord to find the best position and tie with a double knot. Secure the child before making changes to the cord.

IMPORTANT: Always keep your left arm across the child's back for safety.

To remove the sling, reverse the above procedure:

1) Support the child's weight with your left arm. Hook your right thumb under the shoulder strap just above your collarbone.

2) While lifting the child up with your left arm, pull the shoulder strap over your head with your right hand. Allow the sling to slide down the outside of your arm and let it drop. Shift the child's weight to the right arm. The sling can now be gathered up in your left hand.

OR

1) Sit down, so that you create a lap.

2) Once you and the child are stable, use both hands to remove the child from The HipHugger, taking care that the child's legs and feet are fully free of the sling.

3) Put the child down someplace safe, and only then remove The HipHugger.

IMPORTANT: If you don't feel completely confident putting your child in and out of the sling, or if the child begins to squirm out of control, first stabilize the child then request help from a friend.
